The LinuxToGo main server has moved to a new hosting location on a much more powerful machine. We assume that this will have some positive impact on the overall performance and reliability of LinuxTogGo platform. We are running on a new machine with an Intel i7-920 Quad-Core CPU and 8 GB of RAM. We have a 100MBit uplink in a large computing center in Germany. Expecially for services like GIT and SVN we ecpect a major performance boost.

Apart from the updated hardware we are working on major software updates as well. The old GForge installation gets migrated to FusionForge and several other services got updated. We have introduced a spam filter for all email traffic as well.

Not all services are availabe already and it will take some more time to get everything running smoothly again.

Not available right now are:
- Bugzilla (fixed now)
- Angström Website (fixed now)
- Project groups (should work, needs some more care)
- Downloads (fixed)
- Wiki (fixed now)
- ftp

Good news for LinuxToGo: We have gained new sponsor! Bytemark Hosting sponsors a virtual server for us. Now we finally have the chance to distribute the load among two devices. Many thanks to Nick Thomas (lupine_85) for the idea and approaching us and his boss Matthew Bloch!

We have updated the server to Debian Lenny and we are going to stay with it for a while. This means that we should have reached a quite stable state apart from the limited server capabilities that lead to some reliability problems lately. The last task in the update chain was updating the kernel to latest Debian 2.6.26 and rebooting the machine.

Currently we have 37 registered projects with 390 users. LinuxToGo serves between 860 GB and 1.25 TB of data every month while the main web service takes up to 560 GB of this. We have more than 30000 different visitors and almost 1.4 million monthly page accesses not counting hits by bots and grabbers. The most traffic causing toplevel domain was '.net' while he only had four hits from '.bn' (Brunei Darussalam). The most poular wiki page belongs to the Ångström project: http://linuxtogo.org/gowiki/Angstrom

Linux To Go aims to be a free site maintained by and for the community. But pitily voluntary work hours alone cannot gurantee the existance. The server, infrastructure and network bandwidth cost actual money. For being able to provide this service to the community money is needed to pay this cost.

LinuxToGo now supports GIT repositories for projects and personal use. This is going to be very useful for Linux Kernel projects which want to stay in sync with upstream Linux development.
GIT is set up and running as well as GITweb which is available at http://git.linuxtogo.org.

The new service for creating and distributing screenshots is available for use now. You can upload screenshots from your device to the website http://scap.linuxtogo.org directly using latest release of gpe-scap.
Its always interesting to visit (and feed!) the screenshot service to see which applications are currently under development. If you are interested in helping with scap.linuxtogo.org please thake a look at the project website.

Linux-To-Go and all the open source projects hosted here live from their contributors. But what can i do if i want to help or have ideas i want to discuss?

This article contains some very basic information about where to find the information to get involved with the hosted open source projects Linux-To-Go.

We have a slightly improved web services configuration now. All projects hosted at LinuxToGo can have their default homepage at projectname.home.linuxtogo.org.

The data can be uploaded by all project members to the project html directory /home/groups/projectname/htdocs. Please note that it takes a while till the user and permissions are set up after registering a user or project.

Using PHP in this default location is not possible at the moment. If you intend to make a more complex website using PHP or want a nicer looking subdomain please contact us at linuxtogo@linuxtogo.org

We have Bugzilla installed and ready to be used by the projects that do not want to
use the GForge bugtracker. Thanks to Koen for the initial setup and the friendly looking bug :-) Bugzilla can be accessed here: http://bugs.linuxtogo.org

The projects using bugzilla will share one installation and database. To make using bugzilla as convenient as possible, the projects are allowed to have their own bugzilla product classification. With this setup we are even able to move bugs between different projects which might be quite nice for the distributions. Importing bugs from other up to date Bugzilla installations should be possible as well. To import huge numbers of products and releases we have a small script that imports products and versions from a directory listing or similar.
